Private House in the Rhyl area on 28th February 2011

Whatever your views may be of Rhyl, many people over the years have fond memories of the resort, whether spending a day with their family and friends enjoying the sandy beach and amusements to spending a week away in the many holiday caravan sites that adorn the coastline. Most people however never associate Rhyl with ghosts, but there are many stories from the haunted location in the area.

Rhyl’s History

Rhyl in the early nineteenth century was a small village with a population of about 300. By the end of the mid 1830's it had become a fashionable watering place and many titled people took rooms for months at a time. Rhyl may boast modern facilities and attractions but at heart it is a very traditional seaside resort and has been welcoming visitors for over 150 years.  Rhyl' first industry was brick making. There were four clay pits on the edge of the town - three in the Ffordd Las/Cefndy Road area, the most well known and most productive being the Cefndy Brickworks. The original owner of these brickworks was Llywelyn Blackwell Evans, brick maker of Rhyl. Another aspect of the works was the small community that lived in 16 cottages on the site. The original 20 workers married and had children so that the community trebled over the years. The site of the works was where they lived, worked and played over two generations. Another aspect of these families was the spirit of community which passed down through the grandchildren. Descendants of the Hannam, Jones and Roberts families became town councilors, county councilors and, on three occasions, town mayors of Rhyl.  Most of the red brick buildings in Rhyl and surrounding areas between 1860 and 1940 were built from bricks produced at the Cefndy brickworks and some of the former Ty Newydd brickworks. There has been evidence of some early history in the area, for example Roman artifacts have been found, but it really was the Victorian era that helped Rhyl become a popular tourist resort. A small town the importance of the tourist industry was to have an important effect on the area, by the mid 1830’s it was becoming quite the place to visit. This is still true today and Rhyl has certainly progressed to capitalise on its miles of sandy beaches. All along the prom are hotels with great sea views and throughout the 20th century it attracted both long term tourists and day trippers. Entertainment for all the family the byword of the town, it had miles of amusement arcades for those days when it rained and its funfair at he West End of town on Ocean Beach with its wide variety of thrilling rides entertained families from all over the UK. For those who preferred things a little quieter there was the Marine Lake – built on land reclaimed from the River Clwyd in 1895 the site was popular for boating and bathing. The Marine Lake is famous for its miniature railway which was built to take in a circuit of the lake, around a mile, and opened in 1911. Today it is managed by the Rhyl Steam Preservation Trust and, manned by volunteers; it still runs regularly throughout the summer. Towards the end of the 1960’s and early 1970’s Rhyl tourism was in strong competition with cheap foreign holidays but it was determined to fight back. It built the Sun Centre right on the promenade, an indoor entertainment complex that has indoor swimming pools providing the perfect climate, adjoining the Sun Centre a new theatre was built that plays host to many productions not just in the summer but throughout the year. It built a whole new entertainment area just off the town centre that offers a variety of shops and restaurants, and in 1993 it built the Skytower – an observation tower that rises some 240’ above ground and providing some spectacular views. Rhyl is ideally placed for those who wish to explore the surrounding towns and villages and yet is convenient to reach by either car or train. Where Rhyl was once struggling, it is now once again a successful tourist resort where investment is continuing – the new Drift Park (with its themed gardens) and Foryd Harbour refurbishment which will offer both tourists and residents alike yet more facilities. .

Spiritual Protection

Spiritual Protection is something that everyone should know how to do, regardless of our religious beliefs (or lack of). It encompasses far more than just ghosts & spirits too.
Negativity in any form can be damaging to the human energy field (aura). Fear, anger, depression, negative people/places, arguments and more actually create negative energy that can cling to you or build up in your home and cause problems over time. Spiritual cleansings are very important, for yourself and your home. I recommend they be done at least every few months, more if you find yourself feeling stressed or fatigued.

One of the most important aspects of spiritual protection is "white light" protection. It's very simple to do, and maybe you've even read about it or done it without knowing it. It's very effective at removing and preventing negative energy from harming you. To do this, just visualize an egg-shaped sphere of brilliant white light completely surrounding you, from head to toe. Really focus on seeing it clearly in your mind, and keep building it up so it's SUPER bright and glowing. See it as a solid barrier of protection that negativity cannot cross. If you wish, you can also say a prayer of protection while doing this. You don't have to get fancy with the wording. Say something like, "God/dess, please surround me with a sphere of powerful, brilliant white light.

Send the Archangels to protect me from all harm, and please send my Spirit Guides to guide me, guard me and keep away all negative influences."You can do this for yourself, loved ones, pets, even your house and car! Before traveling anywhere, you can visualise this white light surrounding your car, and the occupants of the car. At night before you go to bed, visualise the white light completely surrounding your house and your family, preventing any harmful energy from entering. This should be done frequently, whether you feel threatened or not. Over time, this builds up a strong shield of protection that is with you always. And just keep reinforcing it, day after day. It's best to do this in the morning and again at night before bed, but it can be done as many times as you want, any time of day.

Sprits are normally grounded if they don’t realise there dead or if they have unfinished business on earth. I also believe spirits can be grounded if other powerful spirits or entities are keeping them grounded. If they had no relations on earth then it’s probably the same when they die.  Spirits of the young rarely if ever have any trouble in "passing over" because they are relatively new to the physical world. A child spirit might choose to stay with its parents. This can be a problem; they are still very attached to their loved ones here on Earth.  They cannot go on completely because the grief of the people they’ve left behind holding onto their energy here, like a tether.

The investigation can be a hectic time for you and your family. Now instead of one invisible guest, you may have a team of visitors stopping by. It is important for you to keep a cool head and offer the investigators any help they may need. Keep in mind however; this is still your home. It does not belong to the ghost, and it does not belong to the ghost hunters. You should be able to communicate any concerns you may have, and if you are uncomfortable, you can call an end to the investigation at any time.

The Investigation

Many people across the world experience ghost sightings within the comfort of their own home. This is often the most terrifying of thoughts - the dead live in my home! In most cases 80% of haunted houses are just down to the expansion of floorboards, pipes warming up as central heating is activated? Drafts from old window frames or open windows, and even natures small creatures all play a role in tricking the mind. You must remember that the mind is a power existence and can play many tricks on you in a given situation.

On our arrival the group set up the K2 meters and voice recorders in the living room and in a bedroom. The Lady of the house had told us of her experiences and the paranormal phenomena that she had been enduring over a number of years.

Our medium became aware of two spirits, a woman and a man. The woman came across as a friendly spirit in her seventies. Some information our medium was able to glean was that she lived here in the 1990’s and gave the name Mary Evans; there was also an “O” name for her second Christian name. She had been a cleaner at the old Alexandra hospital in Rhyl.

She had been taken away and put in a nursing home, which she didn’t want, she wanted to stay in her home and unfortunately Mary was never to return to the comfort of her home, except after her death.

The other spirit who communicated with our medium was a man who gave his name as Andrew (Andy) Lawson a man probably in his late twenties or early thirties. In life Andrew Lawson had been a drunken bully who had no respect for women, he was a drug addict and a generally nasty piece of work who liked to dominate women which continued after is death from alcohol and drug abuse. While our client was talking he shouted “shut up bitch” This grounded spirit had attached itself to our client and would have continued to make her life a misery, even Mary was afraid of him and she kept her distance. During an exchange of words with our medium Andrew shouted “F*** Off at him.  At this point it was decided to try and send Andrew over to the light. The group formed a circle and after some coaxing and help from the other side Andrew crossed over.

The Ouija board was used and most of the information that came out just confirmed what our medium had been saying. The K2 meters had been responding all evening by flashing their coloured lights through the full spectrum when questions had been asked of the spirits.

Tim was able to debunk some of the claims of paranormal activity that had been occurring in the living room.

He then read out a clearing prayer to finish off the nights investigation. Everyone agreed that the room felt much warmer and more welcoming than when we had arrived. There are unfortunately some not very friendly spirits who are rather mean or negative when alive and continue the abusive cycle even after death. Negative spirits usually have to be forced out or forced to cross over.
